The Recognition Group freeworking model means we can work from anywhere – and we do

At The Recognition Group we no longer have offices, and we don’t plan to in the future. We actively encourage the team to make the most of this and to work anywhere. We’ve seen team members enjoy the freedom this brings, when lockdowns allow, and taking their work with them as they travel.

It’s been wonderful seeing the team fulfill their work commitments through working flexible hours, or even continuing to work full-time, while enjoying a new environment.

John lives in Sydney and has travelled to Canberra and Melbourne, using the weekends to explore and relax, then enjoying a few extra days during the week where he has worked during the day and continued the holiday feel in the evenings. This has let John enjoy mini staycations and feel like a local from a new seat.

John said, “Working remotely has let me move around the country and enjoy mini-refresher breaks while continuing to deliver client work without interruption. It also helps provide a new sense of inspiration, restored calm and excitement being in different environments.”

His colleague, Jack, is from Brisbane. Jack travelled to Burnie, Tasmania which gave him the opportunity to spend quality time with his partner after years of a long-distance relationship.

Jack said, “Being able to work from anywhere made it feel like I was on a big working holiday. It was the longest period in years I had spent with my partner and, while it happened, I was able to continue fulfilling my work obligations. This experience provided a positive boost to my mental health.”

Together, they’ve both combined tips on why remote working locations should be encouraged and how they benefit both employees and employers.

1. Break from routine to make your lifestyle and work flexible

Routine can hinder your enthusiasm, we all crave experiences that stimulate the mind, boost confidence and set new challenges. Working at a new location can help clarify the blurred lines between work and personal life. We are excited to check out a new or favourite destination and get outside to immerse themselves in everyday life.

2. Maximise holiday allowance

With reliable internet, people really can work from literally anywhere!  This means they can work more flexibly while contributing to the business and earning income. It provides the flexibility for more minibreaks throughout the year keeping the team refreshed and motivated.

3. Enjoy professional networking at every destination and get social

Working from home can make networking challenging. Team members can reconnect in person with colleagues, clients, and other travelers when working at external locations (when it is safe to do so). Working from a hotel conference room, the lobby café or at a hot desk within a hotel complex can facilitate the need to intermingle and develop new professional networks. Employers can leverage employees’ networks by getting recommendations for potential new recruits, new suppliers or even clients.

4. Boost your mental health and get active

What an opportunity to take working from home to the next level. New environments force changes in routines and can encourage a change in perspective too. With no morning or afternoon commutes to an office, using the extra time to soak up the atmosphere of a new locations is a great way to decompress and recharge outside of work and screen time. Whether it’s the local hotspots or the hidden gems, making time to get moving (walks, hikes, rides or even kayaking), explore nature and breathe fresh air is invigorating.

Working from home, freeworking, and remote working are all here to stay at The Recognition Group, allowing us to relish flexibility and freedom.
